Int J STD AIDS.
A study in India compared conventional PCR, real-time PCR, & loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) assay for detecting N. gonorrhoeae. Results revealed high sensitivity for conventional & real-time PCR (94.1%), & slightly lower for LAMP assay (88.2%), all with 100% specificity. LAMP assay, with comparable diagnostic accuracy to other methods, could serve as a point-of-care test in resource-limited settings.

J Arthroplasty.
In patients undergoing primary total joint arthroplasty, researchers found that low preoperative vitamin D levels (<30 ng/dl) significantly correlated with increased postoperative complications, notably superficial wound infection and postoperative cellulitis (both P <0.001). However, administering a single oral dose of 300,000 IU vitamin D3 two weeks pre-surgery markedly reduced these risks.
