Telmisartan Significantly Improves Insulin Sensitivity in Hypertensive Obese Patients

Aim

To evaluate the effect of treatment with Telmisartan Vs Olmesartan in hypertensive obese and overweight patients.

Study Patients

Overweight and obese patients with mild to moderate hypertension (N=65)

Study Groups

Telmisartan 80 mg/day Vs Olmesartan 40 mg/day

Study Duration

3 months

Efficacy Endpoints

Measurement of insulin, glucose, HOMA and leptin levels

Results

Treatment with Telmisartan for 3 months showed a significant improvement in glycemic parameteres and leptin levels, unlike olmesartan.

Conclusion

Unlike olmesartan telmisartan significantly improves insulin, glucose, HOMA and leptin levels in hypertensive diabetic patients compared to olmesartan.
