Amisulpride is an atypical antipsychotic approved for the acute and long-term management of schizophrenia in adults. The antipsychotic property of amisulpride is mediated through dopaminergic D2/D3 receptors. Amisulpride has favourable pharmacokinetic properties and lesser drug interaction. . This pharmacological profile supports the clinical efficacy of amisulpride against both negative and positive symptoms of schizophrenia. It has a favourable side-effect profile as compared to other atypical antipsychotics. Evidence suggests that amisulpride monotherapy and combination therapy with other antipsychotics is effective and well tolerated in the management of schizophrenia.
